Location

Cozumel Island is located off the southwestern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Travelers can reach the island by plane or ferry: Cozumel has an international airport servicing all major airlines and charter companies and on the mainland the port of Playa del Carmen offers regular ferry service to the island.

Temperature

The average yearly temperature is 781 Fahrenheit (25.51 Celsius), with a fluctuation of 5 to 7 degrees. In July, August and September visitors enjoy spectacular Caribbean skies that can change in minutes. From November to April, blue skies and fresh northerly breezes make for perfect beach days.

Clothing

Visitors should always have their swimsuit and warm weather clothing with them; cotton clothes and a good pair of sandals are perfect.

Money

Just like in the rest of the country, the Peso is the local currency but US dollars are received all over the island. You can exchange your money to pesos in banks, money exchange establishments or the hotels themselves. Credit cards are welcome in all but the smallest establishments.

Cozumel has a large variety of restaurants to delight your palate. You can=t visit this beautiful island without tasting the local Caribbean-style cuisine and the exquisite tropical fruits that delight the eye.

Bottled water is your best option. Almost all stores carry several brands to choose from, or you can obtain it at your hotel.

International telephone service is available throughout the island, or you can rent or buy mobile phones. Cozumel has fax, long distance, Internet and other communication services in your hotel or in public call centers.
