Additional information

Location

The Riviera Maya is located in the southern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is comprised of a group of independent communities that make up a unique tourism destination: the Mexican Caribbean. Vistas of the incredible turquoise waters softly bathing the sparkling white sand extend for miles. Moving south, leaving behind the deluxe hotels and shopping centers, another world opens up before you: small cities, few tourists and an abundance of virgin beaches waiting to be discovered.

Temperature

The average yearly temperature is 78º Fahrenheit (25.5º Celsius), with a fluctuation of 5 to 7 degrees. In July, August and September visitors enjoy spectacular Caribbean skies that can change in minutes. From November to April, blue skies and fresh northerly breezes make for perfect beach days.

Clothing

Visitors should bring a swimsuit and clothing appropriate for a warm climate: cotton clothes and a good pair of sandals are perfect. Rubber-soled shoes are recommended for visiting archaeological sites. Boots, jeans, a cotton t-shirt, cotton jacket and a hat are best if you plan on exploring the jungle. A light jacket, shawl or sweater are advisable for the evenings in November, December and January.

Transportation

Our bilingual staff will receive you and accompany you on all our comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles.

There is easy access to transportation between small communities, towns and beaches, and buses and taxis are readily available. There are regular bus routes and taxis service from Cancun to Playa del Carmen where you take the ferry to Cozumel.

Money

Mexico's official currency is the Peso but most hotels and businesses accept American Dollars. Credit cards are not accepted in small establishments or for some services, so we recommend you carry some cash or travelers checks.

In Playa del Carmen there are banks and ATMs where you can take out cash on many major credit cards. You will also find money exchange establishments throughout the city.

Food and beverages

The Riviera Maya offers a huge variety of cuisines for your dining pleasure: Italian, Mexican, German, Japanese, Chinese, Vegetarian and Oriental are just a few of those commonly found here.

Most restaurants have a constant supply of some of the area=s delicious tropical fruits: Pineapple, Mango and Papaya, just to mention a few.

Bottled water is your best option to quench your thirst. Almost all stores have a large variety of brands and most hotels supply water on the premises.

Communication

International long distance telephone service is available in all the towns along the Riviera Maya, and public phones work with either credit cards or phone cards. There are also several call centers available where no matter how late it is you can send or receive faxes. Internet cyberbar are available too.
