Additional information

This beautiful port city has become a model of a colonial style city. More than 1000 buildings have survived from the period and can be viewed in what is known as the historical downtown area called Viejo Campeche. These buildings testify to the grandeur and economic importance of the city during the 16th century.

Due to Campeche's cultural, religious and military importance during the colonial period and to the excellent state of preservation of its buildings, the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Campeche, however, is more than a beautiful city. Its rich archaeological heritage from the mystic Mayan civilization combines with the natural wonders of the region to create the perfect destination where natural and manmade beauty vies for the visitors eye: Colonial architecture, culture, archaeological sites and nature's wonders transport you to a magical world of sounds and color.
